Distrust of governments in Sub Saharan Africa, in particular in the Sahel, grows from feelings of exclusion by some communities, in particular related to the fair allocation of natural resources and human capital development. This lack of public services is particularly intense in border areas, creating conflict-prone hotspots that threaten regional stability.
The root cause of this resentment has more to do with injustice than with poverty.
